Nasdaq-100 futures are losing short-term momentum after a strong multi-session advance, but the pullback has not yet developed into a broader bearish reversal. The key test is now around 31,480-31,500. Holding that area would keep the larger bullish structure intact, while breaking it and then failing to recover it would make the downside case more serious.
The distinction matters because a market can be bullish over several sessions while sellers temporarily control the next swing.
NQ has weakened, but sellers have not taken full control
The latest price sequence has become less favorable for buyers.
After advancing strongly over several sessions, NQ has started producing lower highs and lower closes. That is meaningful deterioration in the short-term structure and argues against assuming that every dip will immediately be bought.
But there is an important counterpoint.
Earlier in the session, NQ sold sharply toward the 31,500 area and then recovered strongly. Sellers were able to push price lower, but they could not initially keep it there.
That failed bearish attempt matters. Selling pressure becomes considerably more informative when it produces lasting price progress, rather than simply causing a temporary drop that buyers quickly reverse.
The latest decline deserves more attention because it has persisted for longer. Even so, the more important support structure around 31,480-31,455 has not yet been decisively broken.
For now, that leaves NQ in a developing short-term bearish rotation inside a still-bullish broader structure.
Nasdaq futures levels to watch
Rather than treating every level as an automatic buy or sell point, traders can watch what NQ does after reaching these areas.
31,597-31,616: Recent high area
A sustained move through this zone would suggest buyers have regained control and could reopen upside price discovery.
31,563-31,595: Main recovery zone
This is an important area for assessing whether the current pullback is being repaired. Reclaiming and holding it would weaken the immediate bearish case considerably.
31,500-31,515: First support
This is the first test of whether buyers continue defending the recent advance.
31,478-31,495: Main decision zone
This is the most important nearby area. Holding it would favor stabilization. A break followed by an unsuccessful recovery would give sellers much stronger evidence.
31,440-31,458: Secondary support
Losing this zone after a failure around 31,480 would suggest that the pullback is becoming more than routine short-term weakness.
31,393-31,428: Deeper intraday support
This becomes increasingly relevant if buyers cannot recover the higher support zones.
31,337-31,371: Broader breakout support
A sustained loss here would challenge a much larger portion of the recent bullish advance.
The important word is sustained. A market can briefly trade below support and immediately recover. That is very different from breaking support, remaining below it and then rejecting an attempt to climb back above.
The primary scenario: a test of 31,500-31,480
The most useful near-term question is whether NQ can stabilize around 31,500-31,480.
A dip into that area would not by itself be bearish confirmation. In fact, a failed breakdown followed by a recovery would provide stronger evidence for buyers than simply touching support and bouncing a few points.
If buyers successfully defend the zone, attention could return toward 31,563-31,595, followed by the recent highs around 31,600.
For traders considering long exposure, waiting for evidence that the breakdown has failed may offer more information than assuming support must hold simply because price has reached it.
That principle becomes especially useful when markets are near record territory. What would make the bearish case stronger?
The bearish interpretation becomes considerably more convincing if three things happen in sequence:
- NQ breaks below 31,478-31,495
- an attempted recovery fails to reclaim that zone
- price then loses 31,440-31,458
That would shift attention toward 31,393-31,428 and potentially 31,337-31,371 if selling continues.
This sequence matters more than a single red bar because it would show that an area previously defended by buyers is beginning to act as resistance instead.
That would be evidence of a genuine transfer of short-term control.
What would repair the bullish picture?
The first improvement would be a recovery above roughly 31,545-31,550.
The stronger signal would be a reclaim and hold of 31,563-31,595. If that happens, the latest decline would increasingly resemble a normal reset within the larger advance rather than the start of a more substantial reversal.
A sustained move through 31,597-31,616 would then put the recent highs back in play.

Nasdaq 100 futures pull back after fresh high, with 31,460 emerging as the next test
Nasdaq 100 E-mini futures remain in a rising short-term structure, but the latest move has shifted from breakout to retest mode.
NQ pushed to a fresh high just above 31,616 before sellers appeared. The subsequent pullback has brought price back toward 31,500, leaving the area around 31,460 as the most useful near-term decision zone. The important point is not simply whether price touches 31,460, but how it behaves there.
The advance into the high was supported by a sequence of higher highs and higher lows. On the hourly data, price accelerated from around 31,400 through 31,500 and ultimately above 31,600. The first completed hourly pullback after the high reached roughly 31,516 and closed near 31,530, so 31,460 had not yet been properly tested on a completed hourly bar at the snapshot cutoff.
That creates two useful scenarios. If the 31,460 area attracts buyers and NQ subsequently turns higher, the pullback would look more like a retest of the recent breakout than a failure. A recovery through roughly 31,570-31,615 would then put the high back under pressure.
Conversely, a decisive move below 31,460, particularly if an attempted recovery then fails around that area, would weaken the immediate bullish structure. In that case, the next broader area to monitor is around 31,300-31,310.
The distinction matters because a rising market does not need to keep making new highs without interruption. A pullback can actually provide more information than the breakout itself: holding a former breakout area shows that buyers remain willing to defend higher prices, while losing it and failing to reclaim it suggests the balance is beginning to change.
Also note to differentiate between a test that is just a touch or acceptance…
Why Treasury yields still deserve attention
Technical levels do not exist in isolation.
Interest rates remain particularly relevant for technology-heavy indexes because higher bond yields can affect how investors value long-duration growth companies. A recent US Treasury auction, for example, saw $58 billion of three-year notes sold at a high yield of 4.932%. Readers following the rates backdrop can see the latest Treasury auction coverage here.
That does not mean a single auction explains this NQ pullback. It does mean that traders watching Nasdaq futures should keep an eye on whether bond yields reinforce or work against the technical picture.
There is also a second layer to Nasdaq sensitivity: the index’s large exposure to semiconductor and AI-related companies. These stocks do not always react to the same catalyst in the same way. The investingLive guide on why Nvidia, Broadcom and Intel can react differently to the same AI-chip news explains why looking beneath the index can sometimes clarify what is driving an apparent Nasdaq move.
The bigger picture remains bullish for now
The current decline is still relatively small compared with the advance that preceded it.
That argues against declaring a major top simply because short-term momentum has weakened. At the same time, the recent sequence is no longer one of uncontested buyer control.
The most useful interpretation is therefore:
Broader structure: bullish
Immediate pressure: bearish
Main decision area: 31,480-31,500
A successful defense followed by a recovery through 31,563-31,595 would reinforce the bullish interpretation.
A break below 31,478, failed reclaim and subsequent loss of 31,440-31,458 would strengthen the case for a deeper correction.
A sustained loss of 31,337-31,371 would be materially more damaging to the broader bullish thesis.
For now, the support test should provide more information than trying to predict the next large move before it happens.
